With Every Step We Plant a Seed
A prayer from Andean Elder Maestro Hipólito Peralta + July 13th New Moon Details

Aloha Kākou,
So much is being decided right now, in the world and close to home, and most of it will outlast us. The choices being made this year will be carried by generations we will likely never meet.
That’s a lot to hold. At our New Moon Ceremony, Maestro Hipólito Peralta gave me a different way to carry it. Affectionately known as the Guardian of the Andean Heart, he is a deeply respected Alto Paq'o, a high Andean priest-healer of the Wankarki people from the Paruro province in the highlands of Cusco, Peru. He joined us with his son Fernando beside him, and he came in with tears in his eyes.
"I don't know. I cry as much as the springs, the water springs. But like the Elders say, it's not because of pain I'm crying. We are crying because of joy. Because in the end, these tears will return to the Earth and perpetuate life."
Then he offered a prayer his grandfather used to give each morning to Father Sun at the Coricancha in Cusco. "I ask you, please grant me a small little drop of your sweat, that it may enter my mind and that I may be as wise as you. That a little drop of your sweat may enter my heart so that it may be as warm as yours. And that a little drop of your sweat fall into my hands, that they might be abundant in the hands of a healer."
He lit ceremonial fire in the four directions. He reminded us that a life is brief, two blinks of an eye. On the first we arrive, on the second we are gone, and what matters is what we plant in between. He left us with this:
"With every step we plant a seed. Let them be the best seeds, that those who come behind us find them." ~ Maestro Hipólito
For me, Maestro Hipólito's words gave some comfort in the heaviness I have been feeling. It reminded me that I cannot control the outcome of my actions, but that I can be very mindful of the quality of the seeds I offer. A drop of warmth in the heart, a drop of wisdom in the mind, a drop of care in the hands, planted with every step. The ones who come behind us will walk through the garden we are planting now, whether we plant it on purpose or not.

Deep thanks to Lawrence, who held the consecutive translation throughout, carrying each phrase between them so the whole circle could receive it.
Trusting the Signals
Many of us know the experience of a signal that arrives before the mind can explain it. A knowing that comes through the body, through the land, through a dream, or through a moment in ceremony. Often it is quiet, and easy to set aside.
Part of what we practice together, in these ceremonies and beyond, is learning to trust that signal and act from it. We have come to understand this as a meta-skill: a capacity this moment is asking for, one that grows stronger when it is held in community.
This same field of practice has been alive in Coherence Lab for more than a decade. The Center for Applied Coherence is one place where that work now meets bioregional communities, institutional practice, and the wider systems where decisions shape life.
If this speaks to you, you can read more on the Center's page.
Ancestral Wisdom Collective
Beyond the monthly New Moon, the Ancestral Wisdom Collective is where this practice deepens week to week. It is a weekly circle that moves with the full rhythm of the moon, guided by Indigenous Elders. This season we welcome Unangan Elder Ilarion 'Kuuyux' Merculieff, who has begun teaching with us there. His people, the Unangan, the People by the Sea, have lived along the Bering Sea for more than ten thousand years.
"Traditionally, the heart used to tell the mind what to do. Now the mind tells the heart what to do... We must learn to listen to our hearts, not our minds."
The Collective follows the full lunar cycle: synchronized ceremony at New Moon, Ilarion's teaching at First Quarter, Mamo Lorenzo at Full Moon, and Aunty Puna at Last Quarter. Members receive full archive access to past ceremonies and teachings, connection with fellow practitioners around the world, and a deeper place within this living practice.
Help Keep the Ceremonies Open
These ceremonies have been offered freely for more than three years. If this circle has been a place of nourishment, prayer, or guidance for you, a contribution of any amount helps keep it open.
🌑 July New Moon Ceremony
These gatherings were born from a call by the Council of Indigenous Sages of Colombia to synchronize ceremony across the world. Each New Moon, Elders and wisdom keepers gather to cleanse, attune, and renew together. All are welcome.
