This Sunday is the June Solstice. The longest day in the north, the turning of the light in the south, a threshold the old calendars marked and the body still feels.

Here in Hawaiʻi, we honor every solstice. The summer solstice is one of the year's great turnings for us, a moment we hold with care.

We are honored once again to join our partners at One World.Earth to take part in Solstice Unites, an Indigenous-led synchronized ceremony that follows the sun around Earth. Last December we helped open the circle with them, and it was beautiful. This year we join again.

Here is how it moves. As the sun rises across Oceania and the Pacific, communities begin to gather in prayer, song, story, and shared intention. From there the light is passed from region to region, culture to culture, time zone to time zone, carried all the way around Earth. Guided by Hereditary Chief Phil Lane Jr. and Indigenous leaders from many lands, each community receives the light, offers its own gifts and wisdom, and passes it onward.

This is one global room, open all day, a living flow of people choosing to be in ceremony together at the same time, around the same Earth. The purpose is conscious connection.

When to find us

The Global Fire Ceremony Room stays open for 24 hours, following the sun. Kaiāulu will help hold the room for one hour beginning at 7:30 AM Hawaiʻi time on Sunday. You are warmly invited to be with us then, and to come and go from the global room across the day as you are able.

Wherever you are when the light reaches you, you are part of this. Light a candle. Step outside. Sit with the people near you, or sit alone and know you are held by a circle that wraps the whole of Earth.

Together, we follow the sun. Together, we pass the light.
