This One Feels Different

New Moon Ceremony, Thursday, July 24th, 2025 • 7:30 AM Hawaii Time

Patricia Ellsberg with Joanna Macy

Aloha Kākou,

This Thursday, under the quiet of the New Moon, we'll gather again. To listen. To slow down. To remember what really matters.

This one feels different.

Last night, Joanna Macy—beloved elder, teacher, and luminous presence—crossed the threshold.

You may know her work well, or maybe you've never heard her name. Either way, what she lived for runs through all of us: fierce love for Earth, courage to face what's hard, and a way of meeting these times with both broken hearts and open hands.

There are no words large enough. Joanna was a voice for Earth, a guide through despair, a midwife of what she called "active hope." She taught me something I keep learning: that grief isn't weakness—it's love with nowhere else to go. Love for this living world that needs us.

One memory stays with me. After we'd shared lunch, Joanna called me the next day to talk about someone who had recently died—a person she'd never met, only known through letters. "I can feel him right here in the room with me," she said, wonder in her voice.

That's how she feels to me now. In my breath. In this ache. In this moment of strange, sweet stillness.

Joanna's whole life was transmission—courage, deep-time wisdom, fierce tenderness. She taught me that to truly love this world means letting it break your heart... and then acting anyway.

Here in these sweet summer days, everything's blooming. The sun lingers. Kids run wild. Even with all we're carrying, there's this quiet invitation humming underneath: Pause. Be here. Let this be enough.

That's what Thursday's ceremony is about—not just honoring the New Moon, but coming home to ourselves, again and again. Whether you're feeling grounded or completely scattered, grieving or grateful, bring all of it. No performance needed. Just your real, tender, human self.

We'll pause together. Breathe. Share the moment. Be graced by the beauty of our Elders. And remember we're not walking through any of this alone.

Your presence is precious, and you are always welcome here.

The Field We Tend Together

Each time we gather, we strengthen the threads of ancestral memory, of sacred place, of collective remembering across traditions. What we co-create ripples far beyond the moment.

Your presence matters. It always has.

With deep gratitude for the wisdom that flows through all things,
Prajna, Greg, Olivia, Jared, and Kaiāulu’s Council
