Staying Grounded in Times of Chaos + June New Moon Ceremony

Mohanji's sacred teaching, Aunty Puna's closing message, and Ilarion Merculieff joins the Ancestral Wisdom Collective

Aloha Kākou,

Some of you know that last November, members of our community traveled to South Africa for the World Tribal Alliance gathering led by Brahmarishi Dr. Mohanji and brought to life by Dominic and the incredible WTA team. The time we shared there deepened something between us. So when Mohanji joined our May New Moon Ceremony from India, in the middle of his night, it felt like family showing up at the table.

He came with a very precious teaching. "At this point in time, in this war situation, situations of chaos, how do you become stable, grounded?" he asked. "This is one of the techniques."

Mohanji shared a pranayama breathing practice: Identify which nostril is stronger in this moment. Close the other. Inhale fully, drawing the breath to the center of the head. Hold for three seconds. Exhale through the opposite nostril. Three minutes of this, he said, clears the mind and sharpens focus.

Then he shared something very ancient.

"Do you know when both nostrils work equally? Only from 3am to 6am, every day. That is why temples in India open at 3am. That is why meditators start their practice then."

Mamo Lorenzo, speaking from the Arhuaco tradition moments later, confirmed the same thing. The hours between 3am and 6am carry a particular sacredness across traditions.

Aunty Puna, closing the ceremony, held what all the Elders had offered.

"Great Spirit gave us such an opportunity in being able to experience life through the breath and the soul of one another."

She named what so many of us felt in that room. Different traditions, different continents, different languages, all moving through the same breath.

"What is being told by all the cultures is the same. In this ocean of time that we've been gifted, let us do this together as we continue to wrap our world in this blanket of love, gratitude, and peace."

Ilarion joins Kaiāulu's Ancestral Wisdom Collective

Kaiāulu is honored to welcome Ilarion ‘Kuuyux’ Merculieff into the Ancestral Wisdom Collective for a three-month First Quarter Moon teaching season beginning on the summer solstice.

Ilarion's life and work carry a simple, ancient invitation: the return from the mind to the heart. His gatherings create space for a deeper kind of listening, one that helps us remember an older, more rooted way of being in relationship with life.

Ilarion joins Kumu Hula Puna Kalama Dawson, who offers teachings at the Last Quarter Moon, and Mamo Lorenzo Izquierdo Arroyo, who teaches at the Full Moon. Together, their guidance supports a living lunar rhythm of ancestral wisdom, ceremony, and practice.

Ilarion's First Quarter Moon gatherings will take place on June 21, July 21, and August 19. The New Moon ceremony remains free and open to all.
