Ho’oma’ema’e - Putting Things Back

Next New Moon Ceremony - April 8 at 7:30am Hawai'i Time

Kumu Hula Puna Kalama Dawson, Kaua’i, Winter Solstice Ceremony, December 2023

Aloha Kākou,

Kumu Hula Puna Kalama Dawson has shared how this time is a time of Ho’oma’ema’e (pronounced ho oh ma ay ma ay)

Ho’oma’ema’e loosely translates to ‘putting things back.’

I've heard Kanaka (Native Hawaiians) ask Auntie Puna about returning to the old ways and kicking everyone else off the land. She's quick to share: To do that, we would also need to say goodbye to all the creature comforts that modern living has brought us. She'll ask:

  • Do you like your toilet?

  • Do you like your shower?

  • How about internet?

And it quickly puts things into perspective that there would be much to give up.

Instead, she talks about Ho’oma’ema’e.

In this context, Puna references the importance of restoring the reverence for Spirit and the Ancestors.

Putting things back to the way they were when we had respect for all that is, because everything is a Creation of Spirit, including ourselves, and we are meant to act with gratitude and reverence.

It’s a simple but profound shift, as most great wisdom is.

What are you doing to Ho’oma’ema’e?

Our next New Moon Ceremony is Monday, April 8th, at 7:30 a.m. Hawai’i Time. PLEASE NOTE: Hawai’i doesn’t observe Daylight Savings Time, so if you have recently or will be changing your clocks ahead, our New Moon Ceremony will now be one hour LATER than it has been for you. Inspired by Pacha K'anchay, Mamo Lorenzo Izquierdo Arroyo, and Kumu Hula Puna Kalama Dawson, we gather in response to a global call to action from the Council of Indigenous Sages of Colombia. Their invitation aims to synchronize indigenous ceremonies across the globe to raise the frequency on Earth and harmonize humanity's relationship with the natural world.

Your presence and participation are vital in creating this coherent field of energy. Together, we can contribute to a positive shift, fostering a deeper connection with ourselves, each other, and Earth.

We invite you to join us.
