Growing the Light Together • August 12 New Moon Eclipse
Join Elders from around the world in ceremony, prayer, and renewal.
Aloha Kākou,
In a time that can pull us into fear, anger, and separation, gathering in sacred circle with our Elders and community feels like a precious gift. I left our Full Moon ceremony feeling lighter, not because the world had changed, but because I had spent the morning in sacred relationship with Mamo Lorenzo, Ilarion, and members of our community, and my attention had shifted.
Last week, during our Ancestral Wisdom Collective's weekly lunar gathering under the Full Moon, Mamo Lorenzo Izquierdo Arroyo, Arhuaco Spiritual Elder from the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in Colombia, acknowledged the forces of division moving through our world, and he was precise about where our work lies.
"We feel like we are battling against someone... Once we purify and cleanse, we must stay aware that the vibrations and frequencies of sadness, anger, and envy hold no space in our hearts and in our thinking."
It wasn't the first time Mamo Lorenzo had shared this teaching. In a beautiful conversation with Matthew Green of Resonant World ahead of the 2024 solstice ceremonies, he expressed it this way:
"We don't work against anything, we just grow the light in our heart, the light in our thoughts, and that, synchronized, will create a frequency, so that the darkness loses its power."
Matthew writes that these ceremonies can "unlock a deeper process of repair." You can read their full conversation here.
That same thread continued through the gathering.
Unangan Elder Ilarion 'Kuuyux' Merculieff reminded us that the Elders have carried this understanding for generations.
"There are many people of good heart and mind that are trying to stop things from happening, and the Elders say, don't put your mental, physical, and spiritual energies into that, because when you do that, it increases the thing that you're trying to stop... Instead, what we do is focus on that which we want to see in the world."
None of us in that circle were looking away. We know what this moment holds, on our islands and across Earth, and ceremony is where we face it with our whole selves. Ilarion was clear about this:
"Just accept what is happening. But it doesn't mean that you agree with what's happening... It's not to get away from things and from pain and all these kinds of things that are happening, but it's to change the way we look at and feel what is happening."
Later, Mamo Lorenzo widened the invitation.
"We must sit at a table and hold a spiritual dialogue with all the five races, that their spiritual leaders may cleanse, purify, heal, and that us human beings, whether mixed races or Indigenous traditions, may all turn into the living organs of the living Mother Earth."
Ilarion reminded us what becomes possible when we gather this way.
"When we get together like this, it has great power when we synchronize with each other and have good intention in alignment with all that is."
Week after week, people return to these circles from many traditions, countries, and walks of life. New friendships quietly take root around this virtual fire. So much of what we are sensing in the world right now is more than any one person can hold alone. In regular practice, with our Elders and with one another, we hold it together.
As I reflected on the morning, I found myself understanding these monthly gatherings a little differently. Perhaps this is why the Elders continue inviting us to gather each New Moon: to bring our own songs, our own dances, our own prayers, and our own intentions into relationship with one another and with the living Earth.

Called to Go Deeper?
What you just read is one morning.
Each week, our Ancestral Wisdom Collective gathers in a smaller circle that follows the full rhythm of the moon, not only the New Moon. Guided by Mamo Lorenzo, Aunty Puna, visiting Elders, and wisdom keepers from many traditions, we gather at each lunar phase to learn, practice, and deepen in relationship together. Like any meaningful relationship, the practice unfolds over time.
As a member, you'll receive access to our full archive of gatherings, a standing place in a global Community of Practice spanning many traditions and countries, and the quiet steadiness that comes from returning, week after week, alongside others who are returning too.
If something in these teachings speaks to you, we would love to welcome you closer to the fire.
🌑 August New Moon Ceremony
These monthly ceremonies were born from a call by the Council of Indigenous Sages of Colombia to synchronize ceremony across the world. Each New Moon, Elders and wisdom keepers from around the world gather to cleanse, attune, and renew together. All are welcome in this growing Community of Practice.

Help Keep the Ceremonies Free and Open to All
These ceremonies have been offered freely for more than three years. If these gatherings have offered you nourishment, belonging, or guidance, your contribution helps keep this circle open for others, too.
Until we gather again on August 12, may we each keep growing the light in our own hearts.
We would love to have you with us.
Me ke aloha pumehana,
Prajna, Greg, Jared & Kaiāulu's Council
P.S. If you know someone who would love to sit in this circle, feel free to forward this along. You can also subscribe here.
